Description
A front right control arm with excessive joint play can make an E46 wander or knock over uneven roads. This front right control arm is suitable for selected BMW 3 Series E46 models. The arm guides the wheel through suspension travel and carries loads from braking and cornering. Replacing confirmed wear restores that locating function and helps the tyre maintain a more consistent position.
Control arm wear can develop gradually. Small amounts of movement may first be noticed through a change in steering feel before a constant loud knock develops.
Signs that this component may need attention include:
- Clunking as the wheel crosses bumps.
- Wandering steering or uneven tyre wear.
- Cracked bushes or movement in a suspension joint.
Inspect the arm bushes and left-side suspension. Have alignment checked once the front end is free from unwanted movement.
