Description
An expansion tank may look sound from above while leaking around a lower fitting or seam. This water bottle is suitable for E46 and E53 applications with M43, M47 or M57 engines. Replacing a cracked tank helps maintain coolant volume and allows the pressurised circuit to work as intended.
Cooling parts work together rather than independently. A sealed circuit with correct fluid level gives the pump and radiator the conditions they need to operate properly.
Look out for the following symptoms:
- Repeated coolant top-ups without an obvious hose leak.
- Dried coolant deposits near the seams or hose outlets.
- Cracks or damp patches around the tank body.
Inspect the bottom connections and tank support. Test the cap separately rather than assuming a new reservoir will correct a faulty pressure valve.
