Description
An air bellow supports the vehicle using pressure rather than a conventional coil spring. This rear air spring is suitable for E70 X5 and E71 X6 models. A slow leak may let the rear settle overnight and make the compressor work harder each time the vehicle starts.
Suitable for BMW E70 and E71 models.
Related mounting points should be sound before a replacement is fitted. Damage at the attachment can leave movement or noise even with a new component. The surrounding mechanism should move freely through its normal range. A damaged support or binding connection can prevent the replacement from operating as intended.
Possible signs of wear or failure include:
- The suspension compressor running more frequently.
- Air escaping from cracked or worn bellows.
- One rear corner sitting lower after the vehicle is parked.
Inspect the air lines and compressor operation. Check both rear bellows because another leak can remain after one spring is replaced.
