Description
The cooling system needs space for coolant to expand and contract as its temperature changes. This water bottle is specified for E46, E83 and E53 models with N46, M47, M52 or M54 engines. A fine crack can leak mainly when the engine is hot so repeated low-level warnings may appear before a large puddle develops.
Mixing unsuitable fluids or leaving air trapped in the system can reduce cooling performance.
Possible signs of wear or failure include:
- Cracks or damp patches around the tank body.
- Repeated coolant top-ups without an obvious hose leak.
- Dried coolant deposits near the seams or hose outlets.
Inspect the cap and hose seals for matching leak signs. Check the reservoir mounting points before filling and bleeding the cooling circuit.
