Description
The upper guide supports the chain as it travels through the timing assembly. This upper timing chain guide is suitable for BMW vehicles with N20, N52 and N55 engines, including 125i, M135i, 220i, M235i, 323i, 420i, 523i, 630i, 740i, 20i, 35i and 40i. Damage can let the chain move against surfaces it should not touch. Replacing a worn guide helps restore the intended chain path.
Possible signs of wear or failure include:
- Rattling from the timing chain area.
- Cracks or wear on the guide surface.
- Loose chain movement found during timing inspection.
Inspect the remaining rails and tensioner. Check the engine for broken guide fragments and confirm timing before it is restarted.
