Description
The intake duct carries filtered air towards the N13 engine. This air intake pipe is suitable for BMW vehicles with N13 engines, including 118i, 120i, 316i and 320i. Heat and movement can weaken a hose or connector over time. A sound pipe keeps the intended airflow route intact and prevents leaks that may upset engine running.
A pressure or smoke test can help locate an intake leak. Checking the full air route avoids mistaking a damaged hose for a sensor or turbocharger fault. Air leaks can develop at connections as well as through the pipe material. Inspect adjoining seals so airflow problems are not left behind after one hose is replaced.
Common reasons to inspect this part include:
- Loose joints or damaged hose fittings.
- Air leaks with hesitation or uneven engine running.
- Cracks or splits in the intake duct.
Inspect the air filter housing and adjoining connections. Secure clamps properly and check the rest of the intake for cracks.
