Description
A knock near the top of the wheel arch does not always mean the shock absorber itself has failed. This upper shock mount supports the front strut on the listed E90, E87 and E60 models. Replacing deteriorated mounting components can improve how smoothly the suspension moves and reduce noise transferred into the body.
Signs that this component may need attention include:
- Cracked rubber or movement at the upper mounting point.
- Creaking or rough movement when the steering turns.
- Knocking from the top of the strut over bumps.
Check the strut bearing and spring pad while the assembly is apart. Inspect the opposite mount for similar ageing.
