Description
Oil around the top of an N52 engine can come from the valve cover joint or a damaged cover body. This cylinder head cover is suitable for BMW vehicles with N52 engines, including 130i, 323i, 325i, 330i, 523i, 525i, 530i, 630i, 2.5i, 3.0i and 30i. A sound cylinder head cover helps contain splash oil and prevents leakage onto nearby hot or electrical components.
A ventilation leak can upset engine running without an obvious external oil leak. Inspect seals and brittle plastic connections as well as the main pipe or valve.
Possible signs of wear or failure include:
- Oil collecting around the cylinder head cover.
- A burnt-oil smell after the engine warms up.
- Cracks in the housing or damaged sealing surfaces.
Inspect the cover gasket and crankcase ventilation arrangement. Check spark plug wells for oil and clean any contaminated ignition parts.
