Description
If the front right corner feels unsettled over uneven surfaces, the shock absorber may be losing damping strength. This replacement is suitable for selected F25 X3 and F26 X4 models. Its role is to slow spring movement so the wheel follows the road more consistently instead of allowing repeated bouncing.
Damping can weaken before external leakage becomes obvious. A road assessment together with a physical inspection gives a fuller picture than judging the shock by appearance alone.
Possible signs of wear or failure include:
- Continued bouncing after a dip or speed bump.
- Oil leakage or damage around the damper body.
- Uneven tyre wear or an unsettled ride through bends.
Inspect the dust boot and top mount. Assess both front dampers together so a large difference in damping is not left across the axle.
